Accidents & Illness of Children

• Please ensure that your home, work and mobile telephone numbers are kept up-to-date in the School Office in case of an emergency.
• All accidents, other than very minor ones, are recorded in the Health Office Daily Log.
• If an accident or illness is such that a visit to a hospital may be required, parents will be contacted as soon as possible. It is the parent’s responsibility to take their child to the hospital.
• If an accident or illness is of a very serious nature, an ambulance will be called immediately and the parents contacted as soon as possible. A member of staff will accompany the child in the ambulance if the parents are unable to get to school in time.
• If a child has received a significant bump on the head, either the parent will be contacted on the telephone or notification will be sent home with the child. If the head injury is anything that requires more attention, the parents will be contacted as soon as possible and advised to take their child to a hospital as a precaution.
• In all cases of accidents and illnesses, the child’s well-being is the primary concern. Hence, it is better to be overly cautious when making judgements and deciding on the appropriate action.

When a Student Becomes ill or Injured at School

• If a student becomes ill whilst at School, the parents or, if they are unable to be contacted, the emergency contact person, will be notified and required to pick-up the child promptly, and take them home. In the meantime, the student will be allowed to rest in the Health Office.
• The School staff can only provide limited medical attention such as an ice pack, Band-Aid, fever and pain-relieving medication, temperature readings, etc.
• If a student should suddenly become extremely ill, or is seriously injured whilst at School, the parents or emergency contact person will be notified immediately and the student taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
• In circumstances where the parents or the emergency contact person cannot be reached, St. Michael’s International School will take the necessary and appropriate actions to ensure the safety and well-being of the student.
• Please ensure that your home, work and mobile telephone numbers, as well as those of your emergency contact person, are kept up-to-date in the Health Office, in case of an emergency.

Health Office

The school Nurse monitors the health of students and faculty and maintains a key role in infection control, virus prevention and health advice. Parents concerned about their child’s health are asked to keep their child at home until you have spoked to the School Nurse for advice.  If a household member is unwell, we also ask you to keep your child at home until symptoms are clear.
