We prioritize the appointment of highly-qualified, experienced class teachers, assisted by specialist teachers and full-time teaching and learning assistants. The teaching staff comes from a variety of places, but mainly from the UK. All of our class and specialist teachers hold a UK teaching qualification or an international equivalent and have at least two year’s experience in a British or British international school.
A community of life long learners, we keep abreast of curriculum development, new teaching methodologies and research, exploring these during regular training days throughout the year.


I am a UK qualified teacher and started teaching at St Michael’s International School in 2010. The community spirit at our school is wonderful and I have enjoyed every moment of my time here. I am happiest when I see children enjoying their learning, reaching their potential and becoming independent and motivated learners. I love Japan and have lived in Fukuoka, Kyoto, and the ninja town of Iga-Ueno before settling here in Kobe. On weekends I enjoy spending time with my family, playing the piano, reading a good book, and catching up on the football scores.

I am a qualified Early Years and Primary Teacher, with 10 years of teaching experience across Australia, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, and Papua New Guinea. I enjoy creating engaging, child-centred, play-based learning environments that inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family in the great outdoors, exploring new places, the snow, and kitesurfing. I have a deep appreciation for Japanese culture and cuisine, and I’m also a proud cat lover. I am delighted to be joining the St Michael’s team and I look forward to contributing positively to the school community.

I have been associated with St. Michael’s International School since 2013. I am a trained ABA shadow and have had the opportunity to work with many great and experienced teachers in different classes since then. I enjoy working with students and am passionate about making learning interesting so that they can focus well and do their work independently. I am very excited about my new role as a T.A.
In my free time, I enjoy movies, reading, music and spending time with friends and family.

I am very excited to be continuing my journey at St Michael’s as the Year One Class Teacher. I know it will be another fantastic year of fun learning. I am a UK qualified teacher and joined St. Michael’s in 2022. I am passionate about making learning enjoyable and engaging for children and helping them to develop into confident, compassionate lifelong learners. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, reading, swimming, playing tennis and samba drumming. I love living in Japan and I am looking forward to exploring more and practising my language skills this year.

Originally from the UK, I came to Japan in December 2014 and I have enjoyed teaching a range of different learners in a variety of settings. I joined the St. Michael’s community in 2016 and spent three amazing years as the Year Three Teaching Assistant before moving to Year One. The incredible learners at SMIS make me laugh every single day. I am passionate about diversity, inclusion and global citizenship and aspire to promote this outlook in the classroom. When I am not in school I love going to the theatre, finding delicious sweets to eat, and making friends with neighbourhood cats.

I am a UK qualified teacher and joined the St. Michael’s community in August 2020 after three years of teaching experience in London, U.K. I enjoy the range of teaching opportunities that St. Michael’s offers, including the range of technology available. I am passionate about encouraging children to learn and apply skills that will support them to be lifelong learners. When I am not teaching, I enjoy Japanese cuisine, running and all manner of sporting activities.

I have been working at St. Michael’s since 2006. I studied Childcare and Education in Devon, England and I have been working with young children in England and Japan for almost 20 years now. I completed a pediatrics course both in England and Japan too. I look forward to getting to know each child and their families. During my holiday I love traveling with my family and visiting my friends in other countries.

I am thrilled to be joining the St. Michael’s team as the Year 3 teacher. As a qualified teacher arriving from the Netherlands, I am passionate about fostering a love of lifelong learning in my students. I aim to inspire them to become resilient individuals and thoughtful risk-takers who demonstrate empathy towards others. I am also very excited about the opportunity to learn about and explore the rich and diverse aspects of Japanese culture. I am excited to be joining the team at St. Michael’s and look forward to meeting everyone in August.

I qualified as a teacher at the University of Wales in 1994 and I have been working at St. Michael’s International School since 2005. I was the Library teacher for a number of years and also relished my role as classroom teacher in both Year Six and currently Year Four. Every day is a pleasure, full of surprises, challenges and opportunities for learning. I love it!

I qualified as a teacher in 2009 and joined the St. Michael’s team in 2014 having previously taught in my home city of London. I have always been passionate about helping to foster an attitude of aspiration, resilience and high expectations amongst children. I very much enjoy living and working in Kobe and am delighted to be a part of this community. Whenever I’m not busy teaching, I enjoy pursuing my interests in writing, travel and learning Japanese.

I am a UK qualified teacher and joined St. Michael’s in 2022 after four years of teaching in Berkshire, England. I am delighted to be part of this community and I am really looking forward to another year of teaching here. I am passionate about supporting learners to be the best they can be; encouraging their curiosity, creativity and independence. In my free time, I enjoy exploring Japan and learning about the language and culture.

I was born in India, but I have always lived in Kobe. I enjoy reading and watching movies. I began working at St. Michael’s International School in 2007 as the Reception Teaching Assistant. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of being able to assist in various classes. I believe that I am very lucky as I get to experience St. Michael’s through the eyes of a teacher and an alumni.

I have been working at St. Michael’s since 2004, teaching from Nursery to Year One. Having completed my Early Childhood teacher training in California, I am licensed to teach children aged up to five. I am also certified to teach music based on the Music Rhapsody programme.

I am delighted to be once again joining the international school from which my two sons graduated. A UK qualified teacher, I have taught in England, Japan and also Madrid. I have previously taught Music part-time at St. Michael’s International School and have organized the music program for the ELS Summer School over the past few years. I am a professional musician, dancer and actor having performed as an actor/musician for nearly forty years in theatre, radio, and television.

I am a UK qualified teacher and I also have a degree in English Literature. I joined the St. Michael’s community in 2023. I am very excited to start my new role here as the Library teacher. I have been in Japan since the summer of 2018 and have spent that time teaching in a preschool. I love supporting learners in their journey to discover their passions, unique self and of course a lifelong love for reading! In my free time, I love drawing, reading and discovering beautiful places. This year I really want to study more Japanese and eat more delicious food.

I am very excited to join St. Michael’s International School in August 2024. An Australian qualified physical education teacher, I have taught elementary school PE in Canberra for the last 12 years. I am passionate about providing a wide range of sporting and physical activity opportunities for all students and look forward to working with the learners of St. Michael’s. I love to travel and enjoy exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. My family and I have been to Japan several times before and we can’t wait to experience more of Japan’s culture, language and cuisine.

I have been working at St. Michael’s International School since 2014. I am CELTA-certified, and I have been working with English language learners of various ages since 2011 as a participant of the JET program in Mie Prefecture. In my free time, I enjoy travelling around Japan and learning about Japanese history.

I am delighted to be joining the St. Michael’s International School community. I am an Australian qualified teacher and counsellor, with ten years of experience working as a primary school teacher in Australia, England, and Thailand. For the past two years, I have been working as a counsellor, and I’m looking forward to combining both my teaching and counselling experience to support the wellbeing of the SMIS community. In my role as school counsellor, I aim to provide a safe, compassionate space for all students while working collaboratively with staff and families.
Of all the places I’ve travelled, Japan has always stood out to me, so I feel incredibly fortunate to now call it home. I’m especially excited for my six-month-old daughter to experience the richness of Japanese culture, food, and natural beauty as we begin this new chapter together.

As a Japanese qualified teacher, I have over 30 years of experience teaching high school in Kobe, where I dedicated myself to fostering students’ love of learning and their ability to think and grow independently. For the past six years, I have served as a homeroom teacher, providing comprehensive support for students’ academic progress and personal development. I also studied language education at graduate school. Now that my three children have grown up, I’m excited to share the joy of learning with young children once again. I look forward to supporting their growth and helping them find pleasure in learning.

I’m very excited to be part of St. Michael’s International School in 2025. I enjoy teaching not only children who want to excel in their academic field but also ones who want to enjoy the learning process itself. I always put tremendous effort into creating a safe and welcoming environment for students while fostering resilience and an ambitious spirit. I look forward to working with your child. I have been taking care of the St. Michael’s IT department since 2021. With over 20 years of experience in enterprise networking, security and technical support, I hope to make technology easy and secure for everyone at SMIS.

I joined St. Michael’s as the School Nurse in 2011. Prior to coming to St. Michael’s, I worked at hospitals in Kobe as a nurse/midwife for eight years. I take pleasure in spending my days with our students who are full of energy. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, cooking and playing with my cats.
