St. Michael’s International School was delighted to be represented at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael in Kobe as the Diocese of Kobe celebrated its 150th anniversary. It was a wonderful occasion, bringing people together to celebrate a remarkable history of faith, education and service. The Anglican Church has played an important role in education and community life across Kobe and the wider Hyogo region. Through the establishment of schools, universities and community organisations, it has created opportunities and made a lasting difference to generations of families. St. Michael’s International School is proud to be part of this history.

Founded 80 years ago by members of the Anglican community, our school began with a simple vision: to provide children with a caring and supportive environment in which to learn and grow in an all English environment. Eight decades later, that commitment continues to shape who we are. Today, St. Michael’s is a welcoming international community where children and families from different cultures, backgrounds and faiths come together through shared values, friendship and learning. Our school motto, Growing, Working, Learning Together, reflects the relationships and sense of belonging that have remained at the heart of our school throughout its history.

As we celebrate our own 80th anniversary under the theme 80 Years of Creating Tomorrow, we recognise the contributions of those who came before us while looking ahead to the generations who will follow. From 150 years of the Diocese of Kobe to 80 years of St. Michael’s International School, these celebrations remind us of the lasting impact that can grow from small beginnings and the wonderful things that communities can achieve together.
