Class Assemblies Matter

As we browse the alumni gallery it’s heartening to realise that class assemblies are a well established tradition at St. Michael’s. These events offer our learners a regular opportunity to step forward, share their learning and find their voice. From Early Years to the upper primary classes, children take turns to lead their peers, teachers and families through a snapshot of their recent learning, interests and achievements.

These experiences play a key role in building confidence. Standing in front of an audience, speaking clearly and performing with others helps children develop their communication skills and presence. They learn to project their voice, organise their ideas and speak with purpose, all within the safe and supportive environment of their school community.

Class assemblies also strengthen collaboration. Pupils plan, rehearse and perform together, taking responsibility for their roles and supporting one another so that everyone can contribute. Alongside the academic learning on show, they are practising teamwork, problem solving and adaptability.

Most importantly, these occasions help to build a strong sense of community. Families are invited into school to celebrate with us, creating a shared experience that connects home and school. As we look ahead, we remain committed to keeping class assemblies at the heart of school life, ensuring every child has the chance to stand up, be heard and feel proud of their learning.
