Wellness Week

A child’s ability to learn, grow, and flourish is connected to their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. When children feel healthy and balanced they are better able to engage with their learning, and build positive relationships. Research shows that students who prioritise wellbeing perform better academically, develop stronger social skills, and show greater resilience when facing challenges. By helping children understand how to care for themselves and others, we equip them with habits that support personal and academic success.

This term, our community came together to celebrate Wellness Week, an engaging initiative linked to Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing. Children completed the Wellness Bingo Challenge, a fun way to explore healthy habits at home and in school. Activities encouraged movement, mindfulness, hydration, rest, and acts of kindness, all essential ingredients for a healthy lifestyle. Families joined in, reinforcing the message that wellbeing is a shared responsibility that grows from small, consistent actions.

This year’s activity once again connected our local efforts to a national cause. SMIS students proudly supported TELL Japan’s Step Up Challenge, raising funds to promote mental health awareness and services across Japan. Their enthusiasm, empathy, and sense of purpose reflected what it means to live our school values and take action for a better world.

While Wellness Week offers an opportunity to shine a light on the importance of health and wellbeing, at St. Michael’s it is not confined to a single week or event. It is woven into our daily routines, curriculum, and relationships throughout the year. By keeping wellbeing at the heart of all we do, we nurture confident, compassionate learners who understand that success is not only measured by achievement, but by the ability to lead balanced, meaningful lives.
