Learning Together

At St Michael’s, we believe that teachers are learners too. When staff continue to grow in their own practice, it has a direct impact on the quality of learning in every classroom. Professional development is therefore a key part of our work, not an extra.

This week our focus is on intercultural understanding, identity and belonging. As an international school, our community brings together many cultures, languages and life stories. Staff are taking time to explore how identity is shaped, what it means to belong and how our own experiences can influence the way we teach.

Through shared workshops and discussions, teachers are reflecting on the classroom environment, the language they use and the choices they make about curriculum materials and examples. They are asking important questions. Whose stories are we telling. Whose voices are we hearing. How can every child see themselves and others represented with respect.

This learning helps staff plan lessons and interactions that are more inclusive and thoughtful. It supports our aim that all children feel safe, valued and ready to participate. When pupils feel they belong, they are more confident to take risks, share ideas and engage deeply with their learning.

Professional development of this kind is an ongoing journey. By investing in staff learning, we are investing in our students. Each step we take together strengthens our ability to grow, work and learn as a diverse community.
