We are delighted to introduce Michi, our new school mascot, created to celebrate St. Michael’s International School as we mark our 80th Anniversary. Michi began with our alumni, who were invited to submit designs that captured what has always made St. Michael’s distinctive.
Once the designs were submitted, our pupils became the decision makers. Classes explored the shortlisted entries, discussed what each design represented, and voted for their favourite. At its heart, Michi represents community. St. Michael’s has always been a place where children are known, supported and encouraged to grow with confidence. Michi stands for belonging and for the everyday kindness we want our learners to practise. It also reflects something families often notice quickly: friendships here cross countries, cultures and languages. Our values are seen in the way children include others, collaborate and show kindness.
Michi also helps us share the story of St. Michael’s at 80. This anniversary is not only about looking back. It is a chance to recognise what has stayed constant as we continue to grow. Over eight decades, our school has welcomed families from around the world. What has remained is the feeling of being part of something close knit, supportive and purposeful.
Finally, Michi celebrates the long standing connection between the UK and Japan at the heart of our identity. As a British international school in Kobe, we are shaped by both contexts. We are proud of our British heritage and equally proud of our life in Japan, where learning is enriched by local culture, language and community relationships. Michi reflects that shared story, and the bridge our school continues to build between two countries, and many cultures beyond.
