Celebrating Diwali at St. Michael’s is more than a seasonal event. It is a way for our school to come together, learn from one another and celebrate the diversity that makes our community strong. This year, learners, parents and alumni joined us to enjoy story, music and dance. It showed again that international education is most powerful when it is shared.
Our learners performed collaboratively, showed pride in their heritage and demonstrated confidence from the moment they stepped onto the stage. Experiences like this help children develop respect, empathy and intercultural understanding. They learn that their identity is valued and that St. Michael’s is a place where they can belong.
Parents and alumni also contributed. Some attended, some supported staff and some helped to explain the meaning of Diwali. Their presence reminded us that Diwali is a living celebration that connects generations. It was encouraging to see former students return to celebrate with current families, showing the continuity of our community.
As a British international school in Kobe, we are committed to creating a learning environment where every culture can be seen and appreciated. Celebrations such as Diwali help us do this in a joyful and authentic way. When we celebrate together, we grow together, and we continue to build an open, welcoming and future focused school community.
