We believe language is at the heart of learning, connection and identity. It helps children share their ideas, build friendships and understand the world around them. English is our shared language for learning and communication. It helps children take part fully in school life. At the same time, we value and celebrate each child’s home language and the culture of our host country. We know that language plays an important role in building confidence, identity and a sense of belonging.
You can see this in action across the school. In class assemblies, children speak clearly and share their learning with others. In performances and our poetry festival, they use their voices with confidence and creativity. During Book Week, reading and storytelling inspire a love of language. At IPC Exit Points, children present their learning, explain their ideas and talk with parents and classmates.Through these experiences, children grow into confident communicators. They learn to use English well while also valuing their own language and culture.
At St. Michael’s International School, we work together to create a supportive and inclusive environment. Everyone in our school community plays a part in building a respectful and positive language culture.
