Creativity, Innovation & Problem Solving in Year 2

Year 2 have been developing their creativity and problem-solving skills as part of their IPC unit, From A to B. During their Design, Technology and Innovation task, the children explored the design process by planning and creating their own vehicles. They began by sketching their ideas and drawing the top, side and front views of their cars. The children added colour, labelled materials and thought carefully about the features they wanted to include.

The children then moved on to the making stage. First, they decorated their designs before cutting and folding flat nets to create 3D cars. They carefully assembled each part and attached the wheels to complete their final products. Throughout the activity, the children developed their creativity, fine motor skills and resilience. The final stage of the project focuses on reflection and evaluation. The children will compare their finished models with their original plans and discuss any changes they made during the process. This helps them understand that designing often involves adapting and improving ideas along the way.

Hands-on learning experiences like this encourage children to think creatively, solve problems and work independently. Through the IPC, learners develop important personal and academic skills while making meaningful connections across different areas of learning. At St. Michael’s International School, we believe children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning and inspired to explore new ideas with confidence and curiosity.
