Explorers and Adventurers in Fukuchiyama

As part of their IPC unit, Explorers and Adventurers, Year 3 recently enjoyed an exciting educational visit to the Fukuchiyama Tunnels. The hike provided a valuable opportunity for the children to bring their learning to life through real-world experiences, outdoor exploration and collaborative challenges. Throughout the day, the children demonstrated many of the personal skills at the heart of the International Primary Curriculum, including curiosity, communication, collaboration and resilience. As they explored the local environment, observed the natural world around them and supported one another during the hike.

The IPC learning process encourages children to make meaningful connections between classroom learning and authentic experiences. Educational visits such as this help deepen understanding by allowing learners to actively engage with their topic in a practical and memorable way. Rather than simply reading about exploration and adventure, Year 3 experienced the importance of teamwork, problem-solving and perseverance first-hand.

Outdoor learning also plays an important role in supporting children’s wellbeing, confidence and independence. Experiences beyond the classroom encourage learners to take safe risks, develop social skills and build a stronger connection with the world around them. The children approached every challenge with enthusiasm and positivity, making the most of every moment together.

At St. Michael’s International School, we believe educational visits are an important part of creating rich and engaging learning experiences. The Fukuchiyama hike was not only a fun and memorable day, but also an opportunity for Year 3 to continue growing, working and learning together.
