Green was the colour of the day at St. Michael’s as our Student Leadership Council (SLC) brought the whole school together for a special event celebrating health, wellbeing and the power of making a difference. As part of our Wellness Weeks, our student leaders organised an SDG Green Day, inviting everyone to swap their uniforms for green clothing. The event highlighted Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Wellbeing, while raising awareness and funds for TELL Japan, an organisation dedicated to supporting mental health in Japan.
From planning the event to encouraging participation, our student leaders took responsibility for bringing their ideas to life. Their enthusiasm helped turn a simple non-uniform day into a meaningful opportunity for the whole school community to get involved. The initiative was a wonderful example of student voice and leadership in action. At St. Michael’s, we believe children should have opportunities to share their ideas, take responsibility and make a positive contribution to the world around them. Through experiences like this, our students develop confidence, communication and organisational skills while learning the importance of teamwork, kindness and helping others.
SDG Green Day was also an important part of our wider Wellness Weeks programme, encouraging children to recognise the value of looking after their physical and emotional health. By choosing to support TELL Japan, our student leaders helped raise awareness of mental health and the importance of caring for ourselves and one another. All money raised through the event will support TELL Japan and its valuable work in the wider community.
We are incredibly proud of our student leaders for putting our school values into action. SDG Green Day showed how young people can inspire others, bring a community together and make a positive difference. Together, we are growing young leaders who understand that their voices matter and that even small actions can have a lasting impact.
